High Five for FRIDAY

HIGH FIVE FOR FRIDAY

1. I took a few pictures of my "Rocker Trash" look. Man, I love makeup. 

2. I apologize if some of my #ootd posts seem narcissistic. I just get so excited about new clothes, especially when they're on clearance at Charming Charlie's, that I want the whole world to know! Serves me right. Zion is behind me on the train tracks. He probably got ran over that night. Baha. #imnotright

3. Today feels like a weekend so I made Jerbear eggs and muffins for breakfast. And nothing made it more complete than some patriotic toothpicks. 'Merica.

4. I don't know what it is about our bowl sink, but Sophie sits in there for hours on end.

5. Zion just learned that the Nerf darts can stick to your head. He thought it was the funniest thing EVER. I'm not sure if that was funnier or a video of him saying shirdles instead of shoulders, and Despicadle Me instead of Despicable me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!

I'm not sure how the weather is in the rest of the country but the Southeast is getting pounded with rain. It's not the ideal weather on a day where fireworks are supposed to be displayed. Cry, cry, sob, sob. 

The rest of you must have a spectacular day planned and I want to hear about it!! 

As a kid, I remember shooting off fireworks in the neighborhood getting shot at instead of watching them explode with colors above me. We'd be next door sitting in chairs in the front yard with roman candles being shot off. I have a scar on my finger where one didn't quite make it in the air and shot off side ways...in my direction. My chair flipped backwards but luckily it only hit my hand. And only one tiny scar resulted from it. Go me! 

There was another time where I was the one shooting the roman candles. I didn't realize that you had to hold them in a certain area, otherwise you'd get burned. I learned my lesson. I have another tiny scar on my other hand due to that. It burned for hours. Not even running water over it would help. Maybe that's the reason I'm so petrified of getting burned these days?!

4th of July is also a time to get HAMMERED!! Whether you're making beer snow cones, grilling BBQ, or enjoying your day out on the lake, enjoy it responsibly!

Homemade Chunky PB Ice Cream

As said by the iconic Temptations, "Get ready cuz here I come". I promised a recipe for home made chunky peanut butter ice cream and I'm here to deliver! Once you try this and believe that my mom is the most amazing person on the planet for coming up with it, you'll be sharing this with your friends and family. I remember growing up in Chattanooga and watching the fireworks at Camp Jordan from our front porch. Every year we had herds of church family gather on blankets in the front yard and beg my mom to continue making more ice cream because one mug or bowl full just wasn't enough.

This is the simple way to make it.

Combine 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 cup of half and half, 1/2 cup of sugar, 3/4 tsp. of vanilla extract, 1 pinch of salt, and a half cup of chunky peanut butter. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Then all you gotta do is freeze according to the ice cream freezer directions...usually about 45 minutes to one hour. It will make 1 quart.

The way my mom makes it is a little more complicated because it involves an ice cream maker. And we all know that adding rock salt to the thing isn't always something you want to be spending your evening doing. But if you've worked with them before, it's probably like second nature.

My mom has made the ice cream both this way and by using the ice cream machine. If it were me because I'm lazy I'd make it by just combining, stirring and freezing all the ingredients. They taste the exact same way no matter how it's made.

Grilling foods can be prepared in time for the holiday but often times the dessert is forgotten about. So if you're in a rush and need something that's not your typical brownies or cookies, consider making this chunky peanut butter ice cream. I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised! My husband likes to experiment with it and add Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or Butterfingers. Play with it.

4th of July FUN

This post goes out to all my Nashville peeps. I don't mean to exclude any others but I'm sure your city has similar events, so look them up! I feel like Memorial Day and 4th of July are the holidays with prime time events happening outside. I mean, duh, they do fall during the Summer months. You even might be a pro at hosting your own parties and that works too. Like I've mentioned before, anything to do outside while spending more time with your family will add so many memories to your existence. You'll not want to miss any of them.

Nashville has many many things happening tomorrow for the 4th of July holiday. In case you can't find anything appealing or you hate looking in several spots to find several events, I'm going to list them below for your convenience. Aren't I nice?? But seriously, I hope this helps you out in your search for some good 'ole family fun.

ONE.

Formerly known as "Dancing in the District", Nashville Dancin' is in its' first year of a free Summer music series. It features local bands which perform on the stage at Riverfront. They normally play every Thursday at 7 pm and since the holiday falls on a Thursday this year, they are continuing to perform, but from 12-5 instead. Tomorrow bands include The Cultivation, Molly Sue Gonzalez, Phoenix Stone, Derek St. Holmes Band, The Willis Clan, Joey DeGraw, and Chris Mulkey and Deluxe. I love that this music series is free. Plus it gives you the opportunity to discover new music!! WIN WIN.

TWO.

NASHVILLE FAMILY FUN ZONE.

Right beside the stage at Riverfront is a lawn area where the Family Fun Zone will be set up. It will be open from 12-5 pm and you don't have to worry about the heat because they offer free water fountains as well as misting stations. Thank you Nashville. Vendors will be set up with free samples, interactive displays, and of course, games. Several of the games are even adult friendly! This sounds like the perfect outside event to start your day!

THREE.

MUSIC CITY 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION.

Nashville is promising to throw the biggest and baddest 4th of July party yet. Once 5 pm hits, they will shutting down Broadway from 1st to 3rd Avenues. You are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and even coolers. In addition to the Family Fun Zone happening before 5, they will be featuring a zip line, concert, and the big finale...FIREWORKS!! The concert lineup includes Keb' Mo', The Nashville Symphony, The Band Perry, Striking Matches, and Ten Out of Ten, to name a few.

FOUR.

I did not even know about this event but when I found it in the Google search, it looked really interesting. This event will be taking place in East Nashville off Woodland Street at East Park Community Center. The parade will begin at 10:30 tomorrow morning and the rest of the event will begin at 11 am. It will be featuring inflatables for the children, local music concerts, food from local vendors, cooking competitions, and the Yazoo Brewery beer garden. The first 500 people will be treated to free samples of food from Prince's Hot Chicken Shack and a few others. Yum! I can taste it now!! But of course, if we don't make the cut to be in the first 500, we can still purchase food.

This a just a list of a few events I found in Nashville but I know for a fact there are more going on. Just jump on Google and search your little heart out. Get out tomorrow and celebrate our Independence with your family! My family normally stays in because the neighborhood does their own mini fireworks show and my mom makes this chunky peanut butter ice cream. It is seriously the best home made ice cream I have EVER had in my entire life. And I think I might write about that tomorrow. Get ready!!

Let freedom ring my nails

If you haven't noticed, July has snuck up on us. I don't know how it happens, but it does, every year. In just these few days before the holiday, I wanted to dedicate all posts to the freedom in our country. RED. WHITE. AND BLUE. Everything. Today's post will be on the girly side. So get ready.

All girls know that we love to paint our nails according to the holidays. Maybe it's just me, maybe not. But I wanted to paint mine tonight and show them off ;)

These would be perfect for New Year's.

And these would be fun for Christmas and Winter.

And why not nails for Halloween?

The colors I chose tonight were painted in several stages. My thumbs, pointers, and pinkys were painted with Wet 'n' Wild Wild Shine in Red Red. The middle fingers were painted with Milani Nail Lacquer in Gold. The ring fingers were first painted with Loreal Nail Color in Jet Set to Paris, second painted stripes with Sinful Colors Nail Art in Bad Chick, and third painted hearts with the Red Red listed above.

The glitter is a pain in the arse to take off so that is why I used it sparingly...

 Aah!! Where's my wedding ring? No worries. I'm still married.
