I cannot get enough of the color green lately. All shades are getting to me, deep within my soul, that just makes me feel like a million bucks. My favorite is probably the mint green and emerald shades so I was stoked to receive the emerald Mary Kay Color Design Studio Collection from the premier of the new season of Project Runway. The designers will be finishing off all of their looks with these products so you can imagine that I'd want to jump the Gunn (haha) and review these puppies. Keep reading if you'd like to read my review!
PIGMENTATION: 8/10
I was very very happy with how pigmented the mineral and cream eye shadows were. The lime color was bright and just the color I was looking for when creating looks like these. The cream shadow in meadow grass was also very pigmented which surprised me because most cream shadows I've bought in the past have been almost watery and smudged with the slightest movement. I wasn't very happy with the emerald shadow because it was still see-through after swiping it on my lid for about the tenth time. Overall, they were gorgeous green colors.
The black eyeliner didn't stand out to me at all. It was just like any other retractable liner. It was a true black color, though, I'll give them that.
I was afraid the lip liner and lipstick weren't going to match because the liner is brown and the lipstick is a dark red/purple. But I decided to just go for it and it was like BAM! (in a good way). The pigmentation of this lip product blew me away a little because of the richness of the color.
LONGEVITY: 9/10
Every product mentioned today has lasted more than 12 hours. I put it all on at 7:30 Friday morning and aside from the disappearing lipstick on the very inner rim of my lips from drinking water, it all stayed put very nicely!
I was expecting the cream eye shadow to be creasing by the end of the day, but it wasn't. At all. I'm pretty pumped that this is in my collection! I've got to figure out how to wear green eye shadow all the time now!!
My only dislike was the closer it got to that 12 hour mark, the black eye liner began to smudge in the inner corner of my eyes. It could also very well mean it was user error.
APPLICATION: 7.5/10
The eye shadows were very easy to apply. The lime shadow was on in one swipe. The emerald shadow only worked well when paired with the cream shadow as a base.
The eye liner was awesome at first because the tip was brand new and pointy but by the time I wanted to draw a tiny wing on the other eye, it was rounded and hard to make a point.
I wasn't impressed with the mascara because it didn't coat my lashes very well. I know there are some people that say it takes a week or two for mascaras to be at their prime, and it could totally be the case with this one, but I would rather use something else.
The lip liner and lipstick were the easiest part and applied like butter. Like butt-uh.
PACKAGING: 7.5/10
Before I talk about the lipstick (I've never seen anything like it!), I was just kind of "meh" about the product packaging. Nothing really blew me out of the water. The two mineral eye shadows were samples and came in cheap, flimsy things but the rest was full sized.
But the lipstick.....I pulled it out from my box and looked at it, around it, felt it, because I could not figure out how to open it. You can see where the lid is on most lipsticks, plus you can pull from both ends and it pops off. I finally just pushed in one of the ends and the entire thing slides out from underneath. It's a pretty genius thing. Other tubes of lipstick have lids that very easily pop off in your purse leaving huge messes. So whoever thought of designing it like this, **HIGH FIVE**!!

OVERALL: 8/10
I think I might start looking into Mary Kay products more often now. The one thing that put me over the edge with this review was the longevity of the eye shadow. Eyes are a key feature that I love to play with when I'm applying makeup so I'm not afraid to try anything once. But the fact that it stays for so long is making me a believer in their products.

I would be most excited to try the True Dimensions Lipstick. I like Mary Kay products overall but have not tried the True Dimensions formula and would love to.
